Deptford Green School and Deptford Youth Forum began a joint initiative in May 2002, to develop a forum where young people could express their concerns and discuss issues relevant to them and the community. Initial concerns included issues such as safety - both on the street and in school, and substance abuse. Out of this forum, Oi! Magazine was born.

There have been four issues to-date, distributed to over 5,000 young people. The magazine’s high quality, both in its design and content have led to it being established as a valued publication in the New Cross-area of London .
