The Paired Reading Programme at Castlehead High School provides benefits to first year and senior students at Castlehead. Senior students volunteer two of their lunch breaks during the period from September to April, to help junior pupils with their reading.


This programme has raised reading ages, eradicated some of the bullying surrounding people with reading difficulties and also increased the confidence and self-esteem of the young people involved. The project is going from strength to strength with currently 80 senior and 60 junior students participating in the programme.
