Edinburgh, Scotland

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Youth Volunteers acts as a positive resource and support base for the thousands of young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people within Scotland. By empowering young people to educate the wider community and consequently decrease homophobia and bullying, it allows open discussion on sexual health, safety and identity for 13-25 years old from all backgrounds.

Young people who have been involved with LGBT have helped break down barriers, reduce isolation and homophobia, worked with other peer educators to share relevant information with young people in a way that is accessible, taken part in national consultations and run youth events.

“My confidence grew quite quickly over the course of our first few months as active volunteers. I found that I was able to facilitate discussion and share my knowledge and I enjoyed creating an environment in which people felt secure and able to share their opinions and values with a group.’ Daniel Winstanley
