Nang!’s Amazing Year
Only last year, the Nang! team was facing extinction after a lack of funding led to the cancellation of an issue. A year later, we’re thriving with an endless list of celebrity interviews, fashion and entertainment contacts and a record number of staff. David Gordon takes a look back at a truly amazing year.
November 2006 David is appointed Acting Editor after the resignation of Divina Nang! told that there isn’t any money for a Winter issue or a web designer Work begins on the Spring 2007 issue with an exclusive interview with the Editor of The Times December 2006 Nang! wins a Philip Lawrence Award Given a 10.1 megapixel camera as a Christmas present from the Editor of The Times January 2007 PLA press coverage leads to a large number of recruits February 2007 David is appointed the full-time Editor of Nang! Magazine and makes mass recruitment and the promotion of local youth initiatives his main goals Sanoobar is appointed Deputy Editor March 2007 Interviews with Lethal B and Michael Howard April 2007 Spring 2007 issue is released in sixth forms, colleges, libraries and universities in London Work begins on the Summer 2007 issue May 2007 Interviews with London Mayor candidate, John Bird, and Radio One DJ, Tim Westwood Sanoobar promoted to Creative Editor whilst Kamilia becomes the Assistant Editor June 2007 Nang! are asked to create the official PLA 2007 magazine Interview with Just Jack Nang! meet and chat to Justin Timberlake, Chris Evans and Jessica Alba at the press conferences of Shrek the Third and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer History is made as Nang! has its first fashion shoot July 2007 Summer 2007 issue is released in libraries and universities in London Russ is hired as Web Manager/Designer Summer workshop begins Work begins on the Autumn 2007 issue August 2007 Record number of summer recruits at Nang! Interview with Kano Nang!’s second fashion shoot takes place Nang! attends the first press previews of The Bourne Ultimatum and Atonement September 2007 Nang! attends the press preview of American Gangster Work begins on PLA 2007 magazine Work begins on the Winter 2007 issue with Sanoobar in charge David and Kamilia attend the PLA Sifting Weekend in Birmingham October 2007 Autumn 2007 issue is released in sixth forms, colleges, libraries, universities, Connexion centres and youth centres in Greater London Nang! website is re-launched with Kamilia in charge Nang!’s third fashion shoot takes place Nang!’s staff roster exceeds 40 David goes to China for business and pleasure Nang! wins the BT Seen And Heard Awards November 2007 Nang! attends the release of fellow PLA winner Let’s Be Positive’s new CD Nang! agrees an advertising deal with Fox UK Nang! wins Best Student Magazine of the year at The Guardian Student Media Awards December 2007 Nang! attends The Philip Lawrence Awards 2007 ceremony and the PLA magazine is published
